Description:

The GCT-R is a powerful assessment tool which is both flexible and comprehensive.

Normative data from various occupational and educational groups is provided for Clerical, Numerical and Verbal Subtests as well as for the Total Score.

The revision of the GCT in 1993 built on the extensive history of this test to produce a sophisticated battery of subtests covering a wide range of clerical abilities. Every test part has been carefully reviewed and adapted for current usage. All test material has been re-designed to create a highly attractive and easy-to-use format, contributing to a positive and constructive assessment process for both candidate and administrator.

The ten parts are:

1. Checking - ability to detect transcription errors in a copy document
2. Filing - ability to identify the correct location for a set of named files
3. Calculation - ability to perform a series of simple arithmetic calculations
4. Error location - ability to detect numerical errors in tables of sales figures
5. Estimation - ability to estimate the correct solution to numerical calculations
6. Problem solving - ability to solve a series of numerical problems reflecting familiar office situations
7. Spelling - ability to identify correct and incorrect spellings and to provide the correct spellings where necessary
8. Vocabulary - ability identify the correct synonym for a series of words
9. Language use - ability to identify appropriate word usage in a written passage
10. Comprehension - ability to understand and utilise information presented in a series of passages describing policies and office procedures

Scores from these parts combine to yield three ability scores: GCT-R Clerical, GCT-R Numerical, GCT-R Verbal, as well as a Total Score.
