About the tests

The Watson-Glaser, Ravens and RANRA represent well established and valid predictors of job performance. Increasingly organisations require these tests to be used early in a recruitment process to avoid inviting candidates to sit tests during more costly interview or assessment centre stages of recruitment (where they might not reach the desired level in the test).

Until now, supervised and secure testing has proved costly and logistically difficult to organise. For many organisations, the cost to hire venues specifically for testing and assessing large numbers of candidates is too high even without the added headache of scheduling the event and scoring the completed test forms. This new service, brought about by a collaboration between Pearson Vue and TalentLens removes both of these needs.

Who is Pearson Vue?

Pearson VUE is the global leader in computer-based testing with more than 5,000 test centres in over 165 countries.  In the UK, Pearson VUE works with the DSA to deliver the Driving Theory Test. Pearson VUE also delivers university admissions exams for LNAT and UKCAT as well as numerous IT exams.

UK Locations

There are over 150 UK professional test centres and 80% of the population lives no more than 20 miles from a centre.

Prevent candidate cheating

Tests are carried out in secure, supervised conditions, which give customers the assurance that the test environment is consistent and that there is no cheating.

Benefits of testing through Pearson Vue

This new online service allows job applicants to be sifted at an earlier stage in the recruitment process. This saves both time and money whilst still offering the assurance and confidence that tests have been completed consistently, securely and that candidate ID has been verified, which is important.

Administration

The process is simple to administer: the selected candidates book themselves in to a local centre at a convenient time. Only tests that are taken are paid for although there is a charge for those that have had a test booked but have failed to attend and not provided notice of this. Photo ID is required, ensuring candidate verification.

Results

Results are presented in the form of a raw score and recruitment managers advise us on which norm group will be used.  Pearson TalentLens has a large bank of norms or you can compare raw scores against bespoke norms if required.

Prices:

We can supply prices on request. We envisage that this service will be used where the minimum number of candidates is 10 per recruitment/testing campaign. If you have lower numbers to assess, however, please contact us on 020 7010 2866.

The Tests

Watson-Glaser

Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal UK is a test of critical thinking. It measures high-level reasoning and critical thinking skills, relevant to problem solving and decision-making in a variety of graduate and managerial roles. Critical thinking can be defined as the ability to identify and analyse problems, and seek and evaluate relevant information to reach appropriate conclusions.  Research shows a high correlation between Watson- Glaser total scores and job performance.

An increasing number of organisations view critical thinking as THE most important skill in their managers. Many customers find that Watson-Glaser test of critical thinking appraisal is an excellent predictor of performance. Until now they have had to incur the time and costs of bringing candidates to costly assessment centres to test them.

Raven's APM

Raven's Advanced Progressive Matrices is a leading global non-verbal measure of general mental ability. It helps to identify individuals with advanced observation and clear thinking skills who can handle the complexity and ambiguity of the modern workplace.

Raven's offers information about someone's capacity for:

Analysing and solving problems from complex information

Abstract reasoning

The Ability to learn

Because it adopts a non-verbal approach the test is not influenced by language differences. This reduces cultural bias which can be very beneficial in today's multicultural society and global workforces.

A new short version of Raven's APM, containing 23 questions and 4 practice questions is available in both paper and pencil and online formats.

RANRA

Rust Advanced Numerical Reasoning Assessment (RANRA) is a psychometric test of numerical reasoning. The test contains tow subsets:  Sufficiency of Information and Comparison of Quantities and assesses the ability to recognise, understand and apply mathematical and statistical reasoning. Numerical reasoning ability has relevance for employees who need to make decisions using financial statements, trends and statistics, sales data, performance metrics and other information.  RANRA is designed to assess higher level numerical skills involving deduction, interpretation and evaluation.

It can be used to assess roles from graduates and junior managers up to senior executives.

The above tests are also available in paper and pencil and online formats.
